Upscaling, product separation and purification

When the microbial production process is fully defined, the process is scaled up in order to realize experimental production. This can be a volume of only 20 liters but it can also mean considerably larger volumes (1 - 10 m and larger). Above a certain volume, experiments are performed at external companies.

After the fermentation process, the desired product must be separated from the biomass and be purified. General characteristics of the techniques used to perform this separation and purification are effective, cheap and specific for the application.
